T.rex Discovery Centre

Home to Scotty the World’s Largest T.rex.

Eastend is proud to be home to Scotty, the World's largest and most massive Tyrannousaurus rex ever discovered.

On August 16, 1991, Eastend high school teacher Robert Gehardt joined paleontologists on a fossil prospecting expedition along the exposed bedrock of the Frenchman River Valley. to learn how fossils are found and identified in the field.

Within a half a day, he discovered the base of a heavily worn tooth, and a tail vertebra both belonging to a T. rex.

In June 1994, a full excavation began. Over 6,000 visitors came to watch history in the making as paleontologists carefully uncovered what would become one of the largest carnivorous dinosaurs ever found. The 65-million-year old skeleton is the first T. rex discovered in Saskatchewan, and was later named Scotty.

To preserved this extraordinary find, the T.rex Discovery Centre was built in Eastend. Scotty's skeleton is approximately 75% complete, making it one of the most complete T.rex specimens in the world.
