One of the finest observatories open to the public in western Canada. Named after amateur astronomer and blacksmith Jack Wilkinson, a local blacksmith and machinist. In 1949, Jack built an 8-inch reflector telescope, through which local residents gazed at the moon, stars, planets and many other celestial wonders. Spend a night gazing at the wonders of the universe under the beautiful Saskatchewan Skies.
Here you will find a Celestron Ultima 11” 2800mm focal length telescope with eye pieces ranging from 40mm to 10.5mm and various filters and a GoTo Tracking System. See the amazing rings of planet Saturn, and follow the space station as it soars in silence through outer space.
The Wilkinson Memorial Observatory is located south of Eastend on Highway 13.
The Observatory is managed and maintained by volunteers from the Eastend Astronomy Club. They offer guided daytime of nighttime sky tours.
This Summer the Observatory will be open from 9pm to 1am every Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.
